Industrial Hemp (iHemp) is a variety of Cannabis Sativa plant species that is grown for the industrial uses of its derived products.
It contain less than 0.3% of the psychoactive component Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and high concentrations of cannabidiol (CBD).
It is an annual broadleaf plant with a taproot and is capable of very rapid growth under ideal growing conditions. The female flowers and seeds are indeterminate, which means that there are both ripe and immature seeds on the same plants at the time of grain harvest.
Hemp has been cultivated by men for over 10.000 years, and today has over
50.000 different product applications across a whole array of industries.
Hemp needs less input of both energy and water, and gives high yields. Since Hemp is highly resistant, growing hemp doesn’t need insecticides, pesticides and/or fungicides. Manure from pigs, cows and poultry is mostly used for fertilisation, so artificial fertilisers are not necessary.
Hemp fits perfectly in a normal crop rotation scheme because it creates an improved soil structure so the next crop benefits. Ideal period for sowing hemp seed is the beginning of May, when soil temperature and humidity are optimal. Hemp needs warm, damp
soil. Harvesting starts in early August.
